Ben C. Helton

Ben Coleman Helton passed away peacefully on the morning of July 2, 2021. Ben was born on November 3, 1934 to Edna and Paul Benjamin Helton in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a lifelong member of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, as was the love of his life, Dorothy “Rita” Helton. Ben was an avid Auburn fan and spent his career working for American Cast Iron Pipe Company. When he wasn’t spending time with family and friends at Lake Mitchell, he devoted much time in service to others as a volunteer and past-board member of the Men’s Firehouse Shelter. Ben is preceded in death by his loving wife Rita, his parents, Benny and Edna Helton. He is survived by his daughter Ellen Anderson and spouse Michael Wilson; son Paul Helton and spouse Kimberly Helton; grandson Weston Williams and spouse Bridget Williams; grandson Carson Williams and spouse Hannah Williams; and great granddaughter Caroline Williams. A memorial service will be held at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 15 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Men’s Firehouse Shelter in Birmingham, Alabama.
