July 16, 1952 – Oct. 27, 2025
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Betty Lou Smith Idland, of Birmingham, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 27, after a long and brave fight with breast cancer.
Affectionately known as “Boo” by her loved ones, she was born July 16, 1952, in Columbus, Georgia. She was married to the love of her life, Roger Allen Idland, for 47 years.
Boo’s greatest joy was her family, but she also loved the Auburn Tigers, her church and crafting. Each summer, she enjoyed teaching crafts to children. Boo also served her community as a former member of the Hoover Beautification Board.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Fae Idland, her daughter, Alicia Terry and her son, Tommy Idland.
Boo is survived by her husband, Roger Idland; daughter, Allyson Maddox (Shane); grandchildren, Hope, Martha Grace and Gabe; sister, Martha Jenelle Andrews (Jim); nieces, Ashley Jackson (Steven), Amber Sones (Rod) and Abby James (Ben); and many great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, November 3, at Mountain Chapel Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Two by Two Animal Rescue.
The family would like to thank Sharon and ACG Hospice for the love and care they provided during the past several weeks.
