Betty Hodges Swindal

Betty Hodges Swindal of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 16th, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon Swindal, just five weeks before her own passing. Their love and devotion to one another were a beautiful testament to a lifetime spent side by side, having shared 74 years of marriage together. The loss of Betty so soon after Leon is a touching reminder of the deep bond they shared. After so many years together, it is comforting to imagine that they are once again reunited in the presence of the Lord.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She had a kind heart, and a quiet strength that touched the lives of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever cherished. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren and

great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Leigh Shepherd and Bruce Swindal; six grandchildren; and seven great‑grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2026 beginning at 9:00 am with the funeral service following at 10:00 am at Vestavia Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Kinard Cemetery in West Blocton.
