attended public school and then attended Jacksonville State College for 1 year she then transferred and graduated from the University Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Captain in the 109th Evacuation Hospital Unit and served 1 year at Fort Polk, LA. Mrs. Wingo was given the National Emergency Service Metal by the Governor in 1962. She worked with the American Red Cross Blood Service for 26.5 years.
Mrs. Wingo is preceded in death by her parents Lucille Thompson Chandler and Norman Chandler, her husband Dr. Douglas Wingo.
She is survived by her sister, Francis Addington, two step grandchildren; Rachael Ann Wingo and Douglass Brooks Wingo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. Wingo will be Friday, December 14, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL. A time of visitation will be Friday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Valley Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that donations be made to the Humane Society, American Cancer Society, or the UAB center for Palliative and Supportive Care.
