

Born 8-19-28 at home in Clanton, Alabama, Bettye Wiginton went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2018. She was the only child of William Ira and Eula T. Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Cecil Wiginton, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Holloway and her husband, Dr. John Holloway, III of Birmingham and son, William R. Wiginton of Huntsville, Alabama and granddaughter, Joanna Holloway and grandson, John Holcombe Holloway, IV, several nieces and nephews. Bettye Wiginton attended Huntingdon College and Auburn University and graduated magum cum laude from Birmingham Southern College and Birmingham Conservatory of Music with degrees in music & music and music education. She taught piano for seven years in Mountain Brook, Alabama. After moving to Huntsville, Alabama where her husband was employed by the Patriot Missile Command and then was a builder and developer. She was employed by the Huntsville City Schools and taught piano privately over 20 years. She established Wiginton Realty Co. which operated for over 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a member and pianist of the Billie Scott Sunday School class. She was a member of the administrative board and Servers' Guild. She was a member of the Huntsville Board of Realtors and was realtor of the year in 1980. She was charter president of the Huntsville women's' council of Realtors and was Equal Opportunity Chairman of the State of Alabama for thirteen years and a member of the national board. She received the Robert Jemison State Award for that service. She was state president of the Women's Council of the Twickenham Study Club and a past member of the United Way board of directors. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to First United Methodist Church Missions - Servers Guild #2, 120 Green Street, Huntsville, Alabama 35801. Service will be Wednesday March 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Martins in the Pines Chapel. Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 2:00 Pm at Ridout's Valley Chapel with burial at 2:30 PM at Elmwood Cemetery.
