

He was born and raised in Cullman, Alabama, the youngest of eight children of William Thomas Turner and Cora Savannah Rowell. He attended Cullman City Schools and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from St. Bernard College. He later completed the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University.
Mr. Turner enjoyed a distinguished 40-year career in bank supervision. Following his retirement from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, he continued his service for several years with the Alabama State Banking Department. He was also a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific as an aviation patrol crewman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Mullins Turner; his son, John (Mary Christin); his daughter, Meredith; his granddaughter, Weathers Turner; and his grandsons, Whit, Turner, and Joseph Shepherd, and Camp Turner. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A long-time member of Mountain Chapel Methodist Church, Mr. Turner was active in the Chancel Choir and the Wesley Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to American Village, Montevallo, AL.
Services will be private on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 11:45am at Alabama National Cemetery.
