Bobbie Evelyn Lacey Lowery, born December 24, 1929, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 15, 2026. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, step-great-grandmother, relative, and friend, she left behind a legacy rich in love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Bobbie lived a full life of giving through her strong faith, love of her country love and devotion to her family and friends, and dedication to helping others. She grew up in North Birmingham and graduated from Phillips High School, Birmingham, AL where she was a majorette. After moving to Forest Park, she completed the McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University in Homewood, AL as one of the few females at that time in this healthcare discipline. As a recognized, well-known pharmacist, she touched many lives while working in hospital and retail practices and serving in local, state and national pharmacy-related associations and as an appointee to professional boards including an Advisory Board to the U. S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA). As Director of Pharmacy at Carraway Methodist Medical Center, she enjoyed training future pharmacists. Her relief work at regional hospitals and retail pharmacies provided her with further opportunities to serve others. At 76 years of age, she opened her own retail pharmacy, The Pharmacy at Altadena, to continue her dedication to serving the community. She also served as Chairman of the Alabama State Fair Park Authority after being appoint to it by the Birmingham City Counsel and, at one time, ran for the Alabama State Legislature.
She was a former member of South Avondale Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church of Irondale, and Mountain Brook Baptist Church. At her passing, we called Brookwood Baptist Church her home church family but would sometimes visit area churches where her special pastor and friend preached.
As a young girl, she often picked figs off the tree frequently popping more than one into her mouth. She liked ‘putting up’ pepper jelly and fig preserves with her special friend at her ‘Farmhouse’ in South Alabama. Bobbie loved spending time with her family and friends. One of her favor activities was going to her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s sporting and school events. She especially enjoyed family reunions and visiting her relatives. She made special memories while visiting with her immediate family at a special friend’s condo at Miramar Beach, Florida. Playing bridge and knitting with her friends were some of her other favor pastime activities. In particular, she enjoyed going to Big Canoe with another special friend and knitting for hours while looking at the North Georgia mountains. In fact, she knitted sweaters and scarves for all her loved ones.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Philip ‘Phil’ and Bobbie Irene Boutwell Lacey; sister Violet Jerolyn ‘Jerry’ Lacey Bolton (d. Clifford Odell); brother, Thomas Philip ‘Tom Phil’ Lacey (d. Elizabeth); sons, Lyn Edward Lowery and Terry Glyn Lowery (d. Linda Kaye); and, granddaughter, Ashlee Nicole Lowery Polzin.
She is survived by her daughter, Tommie Lacey Lowery Brokaw (d. Barry Alan); granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Lowery Alexander (Daniel ‘Dan’); great-grandsons, Braydon Chase Lowery and George Cole Howell; great-granddaughter, Lacey Elizabeth Polzin; step-great-grandsons, James Gilmore and Luke William Alexander; several other relatives; and special friends, Jane Pitchford Whitton (Elliott), Lois King Tanner (Michael), and Dr. and Mrs. Terry Sutton.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday, August 22nd at 11:00 am with Dr. Terry Sutton presiding. A time of visitation between family and friends will be held at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, 303 East Wacker Drive, Suite 2300, Chicago, IL 60601-5524, (800) 486-8844, www.ifcj.org, or, to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, (718) 987-1931, www.T2T.org.
Bobbie will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her, but her love for her Savior, family and friends, and kind spirit will live on in our hearts. Now, may she rest in peace in God’s loving embrace.
