Carl Lay Stanford

Carl Lay (Sonny or Sarge) Stanford, age 85 of Birmingham, AL passed away Jan. 10, 2015. He was born to Carl and Mary Stanford on May 28, 1929 in Birmingham, AL, and graduated from Shades Cahaba High School. Following graduation from high school Carl joined the U.S. Marine Corp and remained in the Marines for the next 23 years and retired as a First Sergeant. Following retirement from the Marines Carl moved back home to Birmingham.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Mary Lay Stanford and a sister Mary Jean Skelton. He is survived by one brother Robert V. Stanford (Patricia), nephews David, Don, and Danny Skelton and a host of grand nieces and nephews, and Charlie Scott who was like a son to Carl, and his son, Paul, who was like a grandson.

A visitation will be conducted on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL, and a graveside service will be conducted on Friday, January 16, 2015, at 11:00 AM at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL
