Carol Scott Hackney died peacefully in her home with her family by her side. She was born to the late Marshall and Helen Robberson in Springfield, Missouri on October 23, 1934. Carol graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She continued her education at Kansas University.
In 1956 she married George Lee Hackney. They lived in Kansa City, Missouri before moving to Atlanta, Georgia where their first two children were born. They next moved to Birmingham area and settled in Mountain Brook where their third child was born.
Carol was a full time mother and home keeper. She enjoyed attending and hosting The Mountain Park Garden Club. Guiding her children, helping them with homework and carefully watching their grades was her focus. Then there was college for the children and soon came graduation, jobs and moving away. Carol was a devoted and loving grandmother. She was a most enthusiastic traveler and loved planning trips in America and abroad with George. They toured the historic wonders of Europe and crossed the northern border into Canada. Taking a grandchild with her made the trip even better. There were also tours to Europe with her twin sister.
In addition to grandchildren and planning trips, she was an avid reader of mystery novels by her favorite authors. Adding special antiques to her collection was another joy for Carol as she continued to make her home look just the way she wanted it to look. Through it all, she was a devout Christian and a reader of the Bible.
She is survived by her husband, George Hackney, her sister, Marcia Hallam of Springfield, Missouri, three children, William Scott Hackney (wife Nancy) of Omaha, Nebraska, Catherine Louise Klinner of Springville, Alabama and Lee Dickerson (husband Dudley III ) of Birmingham. Six grandchildren: Nathan Hackney, Corey Phillips, Travis Klinner, Dudley Dickerson IV, Shannon Klinner and Drew Dickerson. She was so proud of her five great grandchildren. Claire and Audrey Hackney, Danica, Ana and Benson Phillips.
