

Caroline Keith Kidd, “Cookie,” 77, passed away peacefully in her home on July 23rd 2019. Cookie was born August 26, 1941 to the late Walling Shook Keith and the late Mary Jenkins Keith. She is predeceased by her husband James Vernon Kidd, Jr., “Jim.” She is survived by her daughter Caroline Powell Foweather (Simon), her brother Walling Shook Keith, Jr., “Chip” (Blyth), her grandchildren David James Foweather and Anna Caroline Foweather. Cookie grew up in Birmingham and attended the Brooke Hill School. She was a member of Theta Kappa Delta sorority and was presented at Holiday Assembly. After graduating in 1959 she attended The University of Texas, Principia College, The Ringling School of Art and the Jerry Farnsworth School of Art. Cookie’s family had deep roots in Birmingham. Following in the family tradition she made her debut and was presented at both the Ball of the Roses and at the Redstone Club’s 55th annual ball. She volunteered with the Junior League of Birmingham. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Muses Dance Club.
Cookie adored her family. She first met her beloved husband Jim in high school but they did not marry until later in life. They enjoyed many happy years together building Cookie’s art career. She was a well-known portrait artist and painted more than 50 commissioned portraits in oil in Birmingham and the Southeast. Cookie was a devoted mother to her only child Caroline and she loved spending time with her and grandchildren David and Anna. Family gatherings meant a lot to Cookie. She valued time spent with Chip, Blyth and her nephews and their families.
Cookie appreciated her friends and neighbors. She valued them all near and far for how they touched her life. In her last years, Cookie found an unexpected joy in the community of Saint Martins in the Pines where she made new friendships and participated fully in all that was available to her. The family would like to thank the entire staff and community for their friendship and support. Cookie will be remembered for her sweet, gentle spirit, her youthful zest for life, her devotion to family, her artistic talent, and her love of God.
