Caroline was the only child of Vida Willingham McGee and Harry Welsey McGee, and was born in Eutaw on January 5, 1942. Caroline graduated from Auburn University in 1965, and subsequently married her husband of 57 years, Alfred Lawrence “ Larry” Merrill, Sr., who survives her.
She is also survived by her daughter, Natalie (Sean) Smith; her son, “Larry" Merrill, Jr. (Laura); and her five grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Blake Smith, Lawrence Merrill, Chandler Merrill, and Brent Merrill.
The family would like to give special thanks to Caroline’s longtime friend and caregiver, Mr. Gregory Layne.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation and reception on Thursday, the 11th of August from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Funeral services will commence at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 12th of August at Ridout’s Valley Chapel with burial to immediately follow, via escorted cortege, in Birmingham’s Historic Elmwood Cemetery.
