

Locke, Carolyn Davis (82) passed away on Sunday August 12th, 2012 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born March 12th, 1930 in Birmingham and graduated from Ramsey High School. In 1951, she graduated from the University of Alabama and married her husband Louis Plosser Locke, of Birmingham. They moved to Mobile, Alabama where they lived for 35 years, raised their family, and were active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Carolyn shared her God given art talent by teaching art classes at the Mobile Municipal Fine Arts center. After retiring, they moved to Gatlinburg, Tennessee where they were active members of Trinity Episcopal Church. Carolyn and her husband Louis were part owners of the family business, Birmingham School of Law, started by her husband’s father, Judge Hugh Allen Locke in 1915. She served on the Board of Directors until her death.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susanna “Susie” Carolyn Locke, her grandson Louis “BJ” Plosser Locke, III and her husband Louis Plosser Locke. She is survived by her son Louis “Buck” Plosser Locke, Jr., his wife Ruth Ponder Locke, and their sons, Jeffery Allen Locke, William Tyler Locke and Austin Davis Locke. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mable Locke Donaldson and Margaret Locke Fleenor.
Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Valley Chapel on Oxmoor Road in Homewood on Wednesday August 15th, 2012 in the afternoon from 4:00p.m. until 5:30 p.m. followed immediately by a memorial service in the chapel conducted by Reverend Russell Kendrick of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, of which she is a member.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 on the afternoon on Thursday August 16th at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. Her friend and longtime minister of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Reverend Roger Porter, will conduct the service.
The family suggests in place of flowers, memorials be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 3775 Cross Haven Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35233.
