Carolyn Camp Rogers, 85, a longtime member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church died Saturday the 20th of November 2021. She was born in Boaz, Alabama where she attended high school and married her high school sweetheart Fred Rogers in 1954. Fred enlisted in the Army shortly after they married and as soon as Carolyn was able, she joined him. One of their favorite places to be stationed was in Honolulu, Hawaii where they lived for 18 months.
Carolyn enjoyed writing poetry, working with children, and serving at church. She was the Director of the Vestavia East Daycare for several years, and also worked as a substitute teacher for many years at Shades Valley High School. When she was 42 she was diagnosed with a deadly form of Cancer from which she was not expected to survive. After many setbacks and years of treatments God performed a miracle and she became the first successful limb salvage in the United States with that type of Cancer. After her miracle Carolyn began a lifelong ministry as a cancer survivor helping others face any kind of challenge they might be facing in their life.
Carolyn’s grandson Brandon once asked her, as part of a school project, if she could give him advice about life and how to live. Her answer was, ”To be strong and determined to get through obstacles in life, because they will come. Establish a good relationship with God to help you with the tough times. You need to turn your troubles over to God during hard times and believe that no matter what, He will never leave you. Try to be the best person you can be and use your talents to lead a productive life. Try to be meaningful to someone else and make life really count.”
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Fred and her sister Elaine Castleberry. She is survived by her sister Sandra Lee (Paul), and her daughters Rhonda Dial (Phillip), Carol Beers (Randy), and Jeannine Davidson (Ken). Carolyn will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and their families, Drew Johnson (Crystal), Dusty Johnson (Kaci), Ariel Dial (Terrol Abernathy), Preston Dial, Rebekah Laddie (Sawyer), Christopher Davidson (Laura), and Brandon Beers (Reagan). She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rogers will be buried at the Alabama National Cemetery on Friday, November 26-2021 at 11:45 AM followed by a service Celebrating the Life of Carolyn, at Ridout's Valley Chapel. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and the service will begin at 3pm.
