Eight years later he “traded” his business for a clothing store in Fulton, MS. In 1969 he founded the
Varsity Shop in Tupelo, MS and partnered with his sons to open a Varsity Shop in Tuscaloosa in 1971
and in Mountain Brook’s Crestline Village in 1977. In 1984 he opened a new shop in Memphis and renamed all exiting shops – Mobley & Sons. In 2009 he retired from active management of his shops.
Throughout CD’s life journey, he was always an active member of a mission-based church is his respective community. For the last 27 years he was a faithful member of Briarwood Presbyterian.
A celebration of his life will be observed in the chapel at Briarwood on Friday May 1 at 11:00. The family will receive visitors beginning one hour prior to the services. CD was a faithful husband, loving father/grandfather, an accomplished proprietor and unbeknownst to some a prolific gardener but he would most of all relish being remembered as a humble servant of the Lord. In lieu of flowers the family request that you remember CD with a gift to a Briarwood mission fund.
