
Age 77 passed away Friday, March 18, 2011. He was born July 4, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to Charles Lee and Lois Burdette Hicks. He attended Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama, graduating in 1958 with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. He was a member of both Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. He served as a Captain in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Air Force in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1960, he returned to Birmingham where he practiced dentistry for 40 years and was a member of the American and Alabama Dental Associations. A member of Independent Presbyterian Church, he served as both Deacon and Elder. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Spencer Hicks, sons John Morris Hicks (Lisa) of Birmingham, Stephen Lee Hicks (Susan) of Chicago, and Andrew Spencer Hicks of Birmingham, and four grandchildren. He particularly loved long weekends at his mountain cabin in Mentone overlooking the quiet waters of Little River. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Independent Presbyterian Church, and the family will receive friends afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Independent Presbyterian Church, 3100 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama 35205, or a favorite charity.
