

Christine Cunningham Redden passed away on February 20, 2017. She was born May 31st, 1923 in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Southern Baptist missionaries, the late Collis and Hester Faulkner Cunningham. The family returned to the United States in 1926, and Christine grew up in Tallassee, Alabama. Christine was also preceded in death by her husband, Major General Lawrence Drew Redden, brother William Gladstone Cunningham and sister Hester Lucile Cunningham. She is survived by her nephew Drew (Cindy) Cunningham, niece Karen (Ken) Worley, great-nephews Timothy Worley, Andrew Cunningham and Jeremy Cunningham, great-niece Jessica Werner, great-great-nephews Ethan Worley, Cole Werner and Braxton Werner, and great-great-niece Amelia Worley.
Christine enjoyed participating in a variety of organizations during her years in Birmingham. She was a graduate of Judson College and actively supported Judson College as well as Samford University, serving on various committees at each school. In area Garden Clubs, she shared knowledge gleaned from her life-long love of gardening. Christine was a loving and supportive wife to Drew in all of his endeavors. In support of his legal career, she served as President of the Birmingham Bar Auxiliary. As active members of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, she and Drew hosted the Young Peoples' Department of the Baptist Training Union in their home on Sunday nights, often having as many as 100 young adults. As a military spouse, Christine was ever the gracious wife of the General.
The funeral will be held Friday, February 24th at Ridout's Valley Chapel with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
