

David ”Bud” Melton died surrounded by his family on Tuesday November 18, 2014 in Birmingham, Ala. He was born on February 22,1934 and lived most of his life in McKinney, Texas but spent the last few months living in Birmingham to be closer to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. David was a graduate of TCU, worked in the insurance business his entire adult life and thrived on encouraging young men and women to explore this profession. His son Ernest, son in law Skip and grandson Wil presently enjoy successful careers in the insurance business because of his leadership, guidance and encouragement. David loved history and especially sharing with others the history of McKinney where he was born and raised. As a younger man, he was an active member of the McKinney volunteer Fire Dept., and most recently served on the MCDC Board, taught Sunday School at The First Baptist Church and enjoyed golf, watching Alabama football, the Dallas Cowboys, hunting at the farm, and spending every opportunity with his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ramona, son Ernest Melton(Sandra), daughter Tanya Cooper (Skip) , 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed as his humor, storytelling and genuine interest and love for others is what made him special to all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be at the home of Tanya and Skip Cooper Thursday evening, November 20th 5:00-7:00 pm with a memorial service Monday November 24th 1:00p.m. at The First Baptist Church of McKinney in Texas. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to his Sunday school classes’ SOLID ROCK Mission Fund c/o First Baptist Church of McKinney, 1615 West Louisiana St. McKinney Texas 75069. The family would like to thank all of the kind, loving doctors, nurses and employees of the CICU at Princeton Hospital who cared for him and our family this past month.
