

Butch was drafted by the Braves out of high school, however he decided to get his education first because he believed it was important. He accepted a baseball scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University. In his sophomore year as catcher his team won the Ohio Valley Conference. He received his Batchlor’s degree in the School of Education majoring in Psychology and Sociology. He received his master’s degree in Drivers Education from Montevallo University and attended Jacksonville State University in the Athletic Administration Program.
He loved coaching! He spent twenty-seven years coaching football, basketball, and baseball. He coached at numerous schools during this time. His last twelve years of coaching was in Decatur, AL at Austin High School with Girls Fast Pitch Softball. He was instrumental in constructing a softball field on school property and worked tirelessly with the help of his parents to accomplish this goal. In 2009 the field was named Butch Wright field.
For twenty-five years, he was often called the Southpointe Santa. He came into the neighborhood on the Hoover Fire Truck each year. He and Beverly opened their home to many children in the Hoover area. He never met a stranger, could always make children smile, loved everyone and gave of himself.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, encouragement and as a Gideon he believed strongly in sharing Gods word to everyone he met.
Preceded in death by his mother Sally Reid of Anniston, Father C H Wright of Birmingham, Sister Sarah Sawyer (Buz) of Cartersville, GA, Brothers Robert Adams of Homewood, and William Adams of Houston, TX. He is survived by his loving wife Beverly, daughters Alicia Jackson (Brad) of Gainesville, GA, Ashley Hullett (Bill) of Tuscaloosa, grandson Sawyer Jackson of Mountain Brook, granddaughter Savannah Hullett of Tuscaloosa. Extended family Coach Tim Hulsey (Candy) of Enterprise, AL, Debra Ivins of Austin TX and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service on September 22, 2024, 2:00 at Helena Global Methodist Church, 2035 County Rd 58, Helena, AL 35080.
