Dayle C. King

Born on September 22, 1934, in Birmingham to Gladys and Otis Clyde Caldwell, Dayle spent her life caring for others and serving her community with kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith.

She shared her love of music by teaching piano lessons for many years and served as a crossing guard in Birmingham's West End community, where she became a familiar and caring presence for countless children and families. As a devoted member of West End United Methodist Church, Dayle faithfully served by preparing meals in the church kitchen, playing the piano during Sunday school and organ during worship services. She later became a beloved member of Third Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, where her faithful presence on Sundays was a constant source of encouragement to many.

Dayle found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved gathering with family, working crossword puzzles, and creating beautiful embroidery. Her handmade Christmas stockings have become treasured family heirlooms, lovingly displayed each holiday season. Perhaps her greatest gift, however, was her hospitality. Her door was always open, and friends and family knew they could stop by anytime for coffee, tea, lemonade, and cinnamon rolls. She made everyone who entered her home feel welcome, loved, and cared for.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Clyde King (Gwen) and Dawn King Hallman; her grandchildren, Steven Douglas Scott, Britnie Richelle Niedermeier (Alan), Nikki Jo King, Tamara Dayle Hallman (Mario Neavez), and Kelly Jayne Stevenson (Stanley); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Ashton Gage King, Donald Thomas McCormick, David Ashod Ware, Samuel Alan Niedermeier, Mahala Margaret Scott, Dejia Inez Ware, Isabella Loree Stevenson, and Teagan Dawn Neavez.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Roosevelt King, and by her parents, Gladys and Otis Clyde Caldwell.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Block 41, 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Birmingham, AL 35211.

Flowers may be sent in advance to Ridout's Valley Chapel on Oxmoor Road in Homewood.

Dayle faithfully supported Big Oak Ranch and Brother Bryan Mission throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either organization in her honor.

Dayle's legacy is one of faith, hospitality, service, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example and countless friends and neighbors who were blessed by her kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
