

Delores Ann Hobbs, age 80, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at her home in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born February 24, 1943 in Lake Village, Arkansas, to Jayne Delores Sivils Hobbs and John Shirley Hobbs. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a brother, John Samuel Hobbs, a sister, Lane Hobbs Brown (Charlie), a niece, Stacy Whatley (David), and great nieces Kaleigh Whatley and Madison Whatley. Other survivors include her beloved aunt and uncle June and John Sivils, many cousins, and many dear friends.
Ann was a graduate of Vigor High School in Mobile, Alabama. She moved to Birmingham in 1961 to attend Howard College, graduating with a degree in History. She later obtained a Masters in History from Samford University, and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Alabama. Ann taught History and Government and Economics at Shades Valley High School. She was also the cheerleader sponsor for many years. She spent her last several years at Shades Valley as Librarian. Upon her retirement from teaching she worked for the Birmingham News as the Supervisor of their Research Department.
She was a member of Dawson Baptist Church, and formerly sang in the adult choir and the Dawsonaires.
In accordance with her express wishes, she will be buried in Arkansas in a private ceremony. The family requests any memorial gifts be directed to Samford University.
