Mr. Don Lamar Whaley, Sr., a life-long resident of Homewood, passed away on Thursday, the 18th of February 2021. He was 84 years of age. Born to Charles William Whaley and Hazel Ferguson Whaley on the 23rd of June 1936, he was a graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and earned his Master’s degree at UAB. Active in the community, Mr. Whaley served on the Homewood Public Library Board and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret N. Whaley and by his daughter, Margaret E. Whaley. He is survived by three children, Don L. Whaley, Jr. (Misty Garrison), Nora W. Johnson (Gary), and Charles R. Whaley (Mary Margaret Self); and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held privately for the family. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials honoring the life of Mr. Whaley may be directed to the Homewood Public Library located at 1721 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. Services are under the direction of Ridout’s Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
