

Donald H. Clay, age 84, of Birmingham went to be with his Lord on February 14, 2011. Mr. Clay as a lifelong resident of Birmingham. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp, and was later honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve. Mr. Clay graduated from Auburn University in June 1947 receiving a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation he worked at ACIPCO and retired from both Rust International and U. S. Pipe Co. He was active in golf, photography and bowling in addition to being a longtime member of Vestavia Country Club. He was an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William M. and Bertha Hopkins Clay; brothers, William T. Clay and H.G. Rogers. He is survived by nephews, Ronald G. Rogers, Stephen D. Rogers, Mike Clay; nieces, Sue Ann Rogers Scarborough and Patricia Clay Mayfield. In lieu of flowers, the family asked donations be made to New Beacon Hospice. Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 12:00 - 1:00 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Funeral service will follow at 1:00. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401).
