Donald Brooks Estes, 83, passed away April 1, 2019. After graduation from Fayette High School, Don attended DeVry University. He then began a career as a radio announcer at stations in Mobile, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Birmingham under the name of Don McGregor. He became the National Promotional Director for Warner Brothers Records in Burbank, California. In later years, Don was employed by the EL Paso Corporation from which he retired. Retirement allowed him the time to devote to his love of painting. As an artist, he enjoyed painting portraits, landscapes and still lifes. His work was admired and appreciated by many. Don was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church and the Mountain Brook Art Association.
Don was preceded in death by his son Judd McGregor Estes, sister Helen Weil and his parents Lymon C. Estes and Annie Lee Estes. He is survived by his wife Laura Estes, his son Brooks Estes (Rochelle) of Plano TX; daughters Libby Sweeney (Kevin) of Naples, FL and Leigh Estes (Jami) of Richmond, VA; brother Darrell Estes (Bobbie) of Monroeville, AL; grandson Chris Estes (Crystal() of Pelham AL; granddaughters Elizabeth Anna Staggs of Clanton, AL , Laurren Estes and Brionne Estes both of Plano TX and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by step children Jim Bullock (Sharon) and Elizabeth Dellaccio and their children Burch and Laura Grace Bullock, Haley, Charlie, and Hannah Dellaccio and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Riverchase United Methodist Church, 1953 Old Montgomery Highway, Hoover, AL
