RICKERTSEN, DONALD L. Don Rickertsen, age 63, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, died Saturday, September 10, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Sue Rickertsen and youngest son, Thatcher Rickertsen, of Mountain Brook, Alabama; his oldest son, J. R. Rickertsen (Ashleigh) of Moscow, Russia; and his daughter, Dr. Margie Ward Rickertsen of Columbia, Maryland. Don was preceded in death by his father, Charles Rickertsen; and is also survived by his mother, Margery Rickertsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his sister, Gloria Dreher (Paul) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and his brother, Charles Rickertsen (Kathy) of Littleton, Colorado. Don was born March 2, 1948, and was raised in poverty in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He earned scholarships to attend the University of Iowa for his bachelor's degree, and the University of Chicago for his law degree. In 1973, Don moved to Atlanta, Georgia (where he is survived by his first wife Linda Rickertsen) to practice law at Gambrell & Russell, then at Bisbee, Rickertsen & Herzog, then at Holland & Knight. Don moved to Mountain Brook, Alabama in 2002 and served of counsel with Haskell, Slaughter, Young & Redicker for two years before retiring early. Don loved his children, fishing, chess and history. Memorial Service at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, Alabama, on Thursday, September 15, at 4:00 p.m., followed by reception and visitation with the family.
