Donna L. Laird

Although born in Detroit, Michigan, Donna spent most of her long life in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from Phillips High School, she married Don Morgan Laird and had two children, Peggy and Alan. She retired from Alabama Power where she was a faithful employee for more than two decades. After becoming widowed, Donna married a long time friend, Pete Little, until his passing in 2001.

Affectionately known as “Granny” by many, Donna treasured time with friends and family in Sunnyside Beach, Florida. Annual vacations with her two sisters, Jody Lundquest Quincy and Carol Lundquest Youngblood, were also one of her favorite traditions. She loved Alabama football, Braves baseball, playing cards & Bingo, game shows and spoiling her great-grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her devoted grandson, Brian Hart (Sarah) of Homewood, AL and two great-grandchildren, Brady and Gracie. She was preceded in death by two husbands and her children, Alan Laird (2008) and Peggy Hart (2012).

A special thank you to Athena Johnson and her wonderful staff at In Good Hands Care, as well as so many caring neighbors, for providing the support Donna needed to remain in her home until the end of her life.

A visitation for Donna will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM. A private burial service at Elmwood Cemetery to follow.
