Dottie, as she was affectionately known, had a radiant spirit of loyalty, inner strength, wit, and love for Jesus. She graduated from Shades Mountain High School and Auburn University, where she developed a lifelong passion for Auburn Tigers football. Her enthusiasm for her alma mater was infectious. After graduating, she taught middle school for several years. In 1971, Dottie married the love of her life, Joseph Dawson Schoel, who preceded her in death in 2016. They were both members of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church for over 40 years. They enjoyed many years of travel adventures and lake life together.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Schoel Kisselburg, son-in-law Scott Kisselburg, and triplet grandchildren Matthew, Addison, and Kathlyn. She also leaves behind nephews, David (Suzanne) and Robert (Nikki) Schoel, and niece, Jennifer Schoel Maier (Craft), all of Birmingham, Alabama.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Chapel. Visitation starts at 10:00 AM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
