Ed was a WWII Veteran, having fought in the Pacific as an Army Paratrooper. He was wounded on Corregidor and awarded a purple heart.
He retired from O’Neal Steel, where he was the Specialty Products Manager. Having accepted Jesus Christ, as his Lord and Savior, at the age of 41, Ed felt God leading him to retire early to write a book on Christian doctrine. He wrote nine books in all with help from the love of his life for 71 years – his wife, Peggy. He wanted to share God’s word with people everywhere he went. His greatest desire was that all his family would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Many conversations were centered around God’s Word. Ed lived out his faith in both word and deed. He helped coordinate fundraisers for Big Oak Ranch and Campus Crusade for Christ. He was a volunteer at Billy Graham’s Birmingham crusades. He was very active in his Church, Lake Crest Presbyterian Church in Hoover. He served as the treasurer for several years, taught Sunday School, and was an Elder in the Church. He loved talking about things of the Lord and sharing his testimony of God’s saving grace in his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edmund R. McDavid Jr. and Frances Lee Harris McDavid; two sisters Mitylene Owen Badham and Frances Lee Haynsworth, and his wife, Peggy. He leaves behind his children, Mike McDavid (Mikelyn) and Peggy Joseph (Thomas); grandchildren, Lyndsay Rutherford (Jeff), Michael McDavid, Jr. (Blair), Taylor Joseph, Jr. (Jennifer), and Edmund Joseph; great grandchildren, Cooper, Halle, Wells, Maggie, Trey, Mary Charlotte, Henry and Florence.
