Edna Merle Hatfield Mosley passed away on April 25, 2018 at the age of 91 due to heart complications. Edna was born on January 2, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama to Frank and Ollie Irene Hatfield, and had two older brothers, Ralph and William. As a young girl she sang with the Mickey Mouse Club at the Alabama Theatre and was a majorette at Ensley High School. When Edna was a young teen she met the love her life, Thomas Oliver Mosley, and they married a few years later when she was 16 and Tom was 18. They had their first two sons in Germany while Tom served in WWII. They later had homes in California and Pennsylvania before settling back in Alabama. Edna and Tom went on to have 3 more children (including twins) to complete their happy, beautiful family of 7. They experienced a life-long love and were married for 72 years before he passed away in 2014. Edna had many things to be proud of in her life but she was most proud of her large family. Edna was a longtime member of and raised her family at Eastlake United Methodist Church. Throughout her rich, full life she enjoyed many wonderful hobbies and experiences. Edna was known to be petite in stature but not in spirit. The Mosley family loved to play games together and she was no exception. Some of her favorites were on family beach trips where she loved to play bocce and horseshoes. Edna was an avid tennis player and played until she was 90 years old. She was very social and was a member of many Bridge clubs. Edna had a beautiful voice and was active in the senior choir at her church, Trinity United Methodist. Over the last year, she found peace, joy, and camaraderie with all her new friends at the Cahaba Ridge Retirement Community. We are so thankful for all the friends throughout her life who loved her so well. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Guy Patterson and his nurse Penny McCune, Dr. Juan Bernal and the physicians and staff of Alabama Cardiovascular Group and the physicians and staff of Grandview Medical Center. Edna is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, as well as her husband, Thomas O. Mosley, Sr. and her son, Thomas O. Mosley, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Ken L. Mosley (Regina) and Jerry V. Mosley (Lynn), daughters Terry M. Osberry (Kenny) and Cindy M. Harris (Eddie), and daughters-in-law Martha Mosley and Randa Mosley, as well as her 13 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Edna was a treasure: a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and we will all miss her dearly. Edna's strength of spirit and zest for life remained to the end. She found solace in knowing that Heaven awaited her. "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.' Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Proverbs 31:28-30 The visitation will be at 9:30am on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with a service following at 11:00am.
