Edward Douglas Parker, Jr.

Edward Douglas Parker, Jr. passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 18, 2023 at home surrounded by his two daughters. Doug was born in Laurel, MS on January 2, 1948 to Edward and Erdis Parker. He graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in Vicksburg, MS in 1966. He completed his B.S. in accounting at the University of Mississippi where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Doug had a career in accounting for many years, first as an auditor at Deloitte Touché in Memphis, TN, then as a Controller at Universal Industries, a soft drink bottling company in Columbus, MS. In the mid-1980’s, Doug moved to Birmingham, AL where he was the CFO of a holding company. Later, he formed Gourmet Foods of Alabama. During this time, Doug noticed the need for an accounting firm that specializes in small businesses. In 1998, he formed Small Business Accounting Services, Inc.. Doug was always a people person and relationship oriented, and the formation of his own accounting firm offered him the opportunity to pair his out-going personality with his business acumen. Doug owned and operated SBAS for 25 years before his retirement in 2022.

Doug was an avid gardener and animal lover. He served on the board of directors of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society for several years.

Doug is preceded in death by his devoted wife Janet Harrington Parker, and parents Edward Douglas Parker and Erdis Goldman Parker. He is survived by his daughters Natalie Parker McDonald (Wes) and Tiffany Parker Stephens (Brad), grandchildren Quinn McDonald and Luke, Masha and Cole Stephens, sister Jinnea Parker Presley, nephew Robert Presley, and nieces Staci Presley Brown (Craig), Dana Presley, and Holly Presley Morris (David).

The family will have a private service at a later date.
