Edward Wayne Soltys

Ed was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he developed a love for sports at an early age. He proudly played football for West Virginia University, where he also earned his degree. Later in life, he moved to Alabama, a place he quickly grew to love and proudly called home.

For over 40 years, Ed built a successful career in the paper industry, specializing in running paper mill trials and diagnosing complex problems. He took great pride in his work, and his knowledge, determination, and work ethic earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Ed had a passion for weightlifting, anything involving the water, and never passed up the chance to enjoy a good bowl of ice cream. More than any hobby or accomplishment, however, his greatest joy was his family. He loved being a father and grandfather, and nothing meant more to him than spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his four children: his oldest son, Robert John “RJ” Soltys and his wife, Jennifer Soltys, and their children, Robert John “Robby” Soltys Jr. and Mellie Soltys; his son, Edward Wayne “Eddie” Soltys III and his wife, Emma Soltys, and their children, Linda “Linnie” Soltys and Edward Winston Soltys; his son, Stuart “Big Stu” Soltys; and his daughter, Stephanie “Stephie” Soltys.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Soltys; his mother, Trudy Soltys; and his beloved stepmother, Jane Soltys, who lovingly became a grandmother to his children.

While we will miss him every day, we smile through our tears imagining him in heaven—free from pain, lifting all the weights he can find, and eating all his favorite flavors of ice cream. That image brings us comfort because it is so unmistakably him.

Daddy-o, thank you for your strength, your love, and the memories you gave us. We will carry you with us always. Until we meet again, we love you.
