

GARNER, ELIZABETH NIXON Elizabeth Nixon Garner, age 69, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 30, 2010. She was born June 29, 1941 in Anniston, Alabama to Idus and Ruth Nixon. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of North Alabama and her Master of Science from Samford University. She retired as a classroom teacher from Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia Hills, Alabama after 27 years. Even after leaving the classroom, she continued to fuel her passion for education with 29 years of service to The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, serving many local, state and international positions including State President of Alabama (2001-2003) and Southeast US Regional Director at the time of her death. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 48 years, Joe Allen Garner, her son Gerald Allen Garner (Sally) and granddaughters Lucy Bankston Garner and Sarah Jane Garner, and brother Robert Idus Nixon of Macon, Georgia. Visitation will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the parlor of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church with memorial service to follow at 11:00 in the sanctuary.
