She was born June 18, 1943 in Birmingham. She is a graduate of Shades Valley High School and the University of Alabama.
A lifelong Presbyterian, she was an active member of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church for 43 years. She was an ordained Deacon and Elder, having served as both Chair of the Diaconate and as Clerk of Session. Her favorite task as an Elder was accompanying the Pastor to visit the homebound and share communion. She also served the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley for several terms on the Committee on Preparation for Ministry by encouraging young people who were entering ministry and for two terms on the Committee on Ministry working with already ordained ministers.
In her professional career she served as intake officer for Jefferson County Juvenile Court; as adoptive case worker for Calhoun County Child Welfare Services; for many years as office manager for Bridges Antiques in Cahaba Heights; and later as office manager for Roy Bridges Investments.
She was an avid reader who always had a novel within reach, loved a fall Saturday because she could watch college football games, loved going to the beach, delighted in a good bowl of shrimp and grits, had immense talent for planning social events, found joy in cooking for those she loved, and was always willing to help at any time. She loved people and was a dear friend to many. Her generous spirit and robust laughter will deeply be missed.
More than anything she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kimbrough Smith. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 51 years, Raymond P. McIntosh; three daughters Libby Rollins (David), Catherine Bentley (Paul), Rachel Jordan (Todd); five grandchildren whom she loved and treasured and who lovingly called her "ReeRee," Mac Rollins, Will Jordan, Andrew Bentley, James Bentley, and Reese Jordan; as well as her brother, Jim Smith (Rindy), sisters-in-law Donna Sprandle and Caroline McIntosh, several nieces and nephews, and much extended family.
Arrangements: The immediate family will hold a private memorial service at the Columbarium at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church later this month.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be sent to Shades Valley Presbyterian Church or to Greater Birmingham Ministries.
