

Hugh graduated from Mountain Brook High School and attended the University of Alabama. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and Independent Presbyterian Church, serving as a youth deacon while in high school.
Hugh was preceded in death by his father Ernest Hugh Cowart, Sr. (Ernie). He is survived by his mother, Lydia Ussery Cowart, his sister, Sarah Elizabeth Cowart (Sarah Beth), his aunt, Sally Cowart Clark and spouse Eddie Clark, his uncle, George Richard Cowart, Jr. and spouse Karen Cowart, his aunt, Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Grubic and spouse Dave Grubic, his uncle Gordon “Bud” Ussery, III, and his spouse Mary Ussery. He is also survived by his cousins Elizabeth McElroy, Madeline Trowell, Nathan Clark, Nick Cowart, Justin Nagle, Tyler Nagle, Gordon Ussery, and John Douglas Ussery.
Hugh was a loving son, brother, and friend who truly enjoyed life, especially spending time outdoors. His sense of humor brought joy and lightness to those around him, and he was known for his loyalty and warmth. He was a genuine, positive, caring person who was selfless in the way he supported others. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved Alabama football and the Jaguars. Hugh was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be a private Celebration of Life Service on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
