

Ethel Katherine Hoff went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 17, 2023. She fully understood who made her, why she was on this earth and where she was going to spend eternity, and lived her life in light of these truths.
Ethel was predeceased by her parents, James T. and Theresa Ethel Luce Hoff and siblings Ada Hoff Mitchel and Jim Hoff. Left behind to cherish her memory are her siblings Jack Hoff, Lydia Hoff Goetz and Linda Hoff Newell.
Ethel was born March 8, 1929 in New Orleans, LA. Ethel trusted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 14 and was nurtured in her faith at Carrollton Ave. Presbyterian Church in New Orleans. She graduated from High School and worked for 1 ½ years at Royal Crown Bottling Company. She completed a major in Missions and Bible at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL in 1949. In 1953, she received a nursing degree for Grenada Hospital, Grenada, MS.
Following a Summer Institute Linguistic Course in Norman Oklahoma, Ethel returned to the Mother’s Home Hospital in New Orleans to work as a registered nurse. In 1954 Ethel followed God’s call to world missions by completing Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) orientation. In 1955, she arrived in Singapore for 6 months of Chinese language learning and orientation. In 1956 she began a 17-year ministry of language study, medical work and evangelism in Malaysia. In 1972, Ethel returned to Asia to complete 23 years of medical ministry, evangelism and teacher training for Internationals in Taiwan. Completing those 40 years in Asia, Ethel retired in Birmingham, AL where she learned to drive at age 68, taught English classes (ESOL) at Shades Mt. Independent Church, Shades Mt. Baptist Church, and at UAB. She served in the International Ministry at Briarwood Presbyterian Church and taught Bible classes at Mt Royal Retirement Center, Vestavia, AL. Ethel always shared her love of the Lord Jesus to all in her life. Her greatest anticipation has been the imminent return of Jesus for His Bride, the Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Overseas Missionary Fellowship, 10 West Dry Creek Circle, Littleton, CO 80120-4413
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Briarwood Presbyterian Church at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday the 11th of November 2023.
