Our Eula was born June 8, 1942 to two proud parents, Susie Izora and Claude Cleveland Phelps in Birmingham, Alabama. On Saturday, June 14th, she was reunited with them in heaven.
Eula, a true southern girl, remained youthful throughout her entire life. She was most happy when surrounded with family and friends. She devoted her life to raising and caring for her family. She loved gardening, painting, was a fabulous gourmet cook, enjoyed nature and all its beauty, traveling, watching her grandchildren play sports and listening to anyone who wanted to talk . She lived life to the fullest and the little things in life were important to her. She loved making people happy!
On March 23, 1962 Eula Sue married the “catch of her life” Reuel Luther Huffman, III and shared 52 wonderful years during which they raised two beautiful girls, Cassandra Denise and Christy Eloise. Cassy and Christy gave Eula seven beautiful grandchildren from which three great grandchildren were born.
Eula also enjoyed her life with two close friends, Randy and Ann who have been by her side throughout most of her life.
When Eula was not with family, she shared her many talents with several organizations included the Wesley Foundation (University of Alabama); The University of Alabama - Department of Romance Languages, the Alabama Cowbelles Association and finally with the University of Alabama-Birmingham WBHM Public Radio where she retired from in 2005. It was known to many that she never considered work to be work.
Eula is survived by her husband Reuel, daughters Cassy and Christy and their respective husbands Tony and Joey, grandchildren Christopher, Luke, Mary Elizabeth, Grayson, Hannah, Eli and Nicholas. Grandsons Christopher and Luke are married to Savannah and Victoria and have three children among them: Addison, Harrison and Asa and one grandson due in July. Eula is also survived by her sister-in-laws Barbara Huffman & Diane Amberson and numerous other cousins, in-laws, aunts, uncles and relatives.
