Eva A. McDonald
July 25, 1923 – November 26, 2019
Eva Adams McDonald, 96, died on November 26, 2019. Born on July 25, 1923, she was the daughter of Ralph and Eva Boyett Adams of Birmingham. She grew up in Norwood, attended Phillips High School, and graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. in psychology. Before marrying her husband Dr. H. Jack McDonald, she was employed by Liberty National Insurance Company, and later by IBM where she was a System Service Woman, managing employee work and efficiency. She was a longtime member of Canterbury United Methodist Church and the John Wesley Sunday school class. She enjoyed dancing and traveling with her husband, raising her twin boys, and playing bridge with her many friends in Birmingham. She worked for many years in the management and business of her husband’s medical practice, and she threw magically memorable parties in the beautiful home she helped design on Cherokee Road. Surviving family are son Jay Adams McDonald and his wife Janet Strain McDonald, and son Jon Boyett McDonald and his wife Paula Eitzen McDonald. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Katherine Lee McDonald Brewer, Emily Megan McDonald, Jon Matthew McDonald, Audrey Scott McDonald, Hillary Eva McDonald, Thomas Blake McDonald. She was further blessed with six great grandchildren: Elaine Rose Brewer, Lily Katherine Brewer, Emily Claire Brewer, Eva Lee Brewer, Elias McDonald Goodwin, Asher Jack Goodwin. All these loved their “Mimi.” Eva and her family give special thanks to the dedicated, compassionate caregivers who provided such loving care during the last years of her life. These ladies include Francois Reaves, Rachel Baker, Ethel Ellison, Sherry Jones, Isha Hill, Susan Ross, LaToya McHenry. Moreover, the family is grateful for the staff at Amedysis Hospice Care, the medical care of Dr. Chris Nichols, and the nurses at St. Vincent’s Gardendale Primary Care. There will be a graveside service on Friday, December 6, 2019, at Elmwood Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.
