OBITUARY

Evelyn Durand Barnes

October 3, 1946February 6, 2020

Evelyn Durand Barnes, 73, of Homewood, AL, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2020.

Evelyn was born in Hammond, LA, to Galon and Aline Durand. There she met and married who was to become her doting companion for the next 58 years of her life—Michael Barnes. Evelyn devoted her life to taking care of her home and her family. As a stay-at-home mom, she not only raised her three children, but also dozens of other people's children as an in-home child caregiver.

She was preceded in death by parents, Galon L. and Aline Forrest Durand; brothers Galon Durand Jr. and John Durand. She is survived by her husband, James Michael Barnes; sister, Ruby Cleaver; children Jeffrey Barnes (Shannon), Tressa Fancher (Brooks), and Christie Barnes (Dennis); grandson, Lucas Fancher; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Evelyn was a simple woman who lived a simple but fulfilled life, full of longtime friends, travel, concerts, cats, her TV shows, and crossword puzzles. Her family finds peace that she passed from this world in bed with her cat beside her, talking to her husband, while listening to the rain.

The family will have a private celebration of life for Evelyn. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to your favorite animal charity in Evelyn's name.

I will truly miss my Aunt Evelyn. I will miss her weekly phone calls wanting to find out the Louisiana scoop. I know my mom and her are living up in heaven. Until we meet again sweet angel. Love Dawn and family
