Mrs. Breckenridge was an Alpha Chi Omega sorority sister at Birmingham-Southern College, where she participated in many activities and led out many dances. After the love of her life, Jack, returned from World War II and completed his education, they were married at McCoy Methodist Church, and Mrs. Breckenridge worked for the telephone company until becoming a mother.
Mrs. Breckenridge was involved in many activities and organizations in the community. A member of Canterbury United Methodist Church, she was on the prayer chain for many years and was a member of United Methodist Women, where she volunteered her talents to help support missions. Mr. and Mrs. Breckenridge were fabulous dancers and were members of the Revelers, Silhouettes, and Coronets dance clubs, where they enjoyed many good times. Mrs. Breckenridge was a member of the Ballet Women’s Committee, where she served a term as president. Truly a people-person who enjoyed life and laughing, she was part of a long-running Lunch Bunch group, her neighborhood garden club, and she took special pleasure in celebrating family and friends’ birthdays with lunches and dinners out.
Mrs. Breckenridge is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack Stevens Breckenridge, daughter Sheila, sons Steve (Mary Liz) and Max (Deana), grandchildren Jessica Free (Tony), John, Max Jr., Laura, and Anna Louise, and nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by countless friends, aged 2 to 102.
Mrs. Breckenridge enjoyed excellent health and many good times over her life. The past year was difficult and the family wishes to thank Always There, Gentiva Hospice, and especially the staff at Fairhaven Methodist Home.
Funeral services will be held at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, Monday, July 9, 2012. Visitation will be at 11:00 followed by the service at 12:00 noon. Internment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
