

on November 30, 2017 after a five year battle with ALS. She was born on February 10, 1948
in Kermanshah, Iran. A stellar athlete, she earned several athletic accolades in the 1960s
and 1970s. She was named Iran's best female volleyball player and was a member and captain
of the Iranian Olympic volleyball team. In 1973, she received her Bachelor of Science in
Internal Architecture. In 1974, she married Bahman Farzad (1944-2016) and immigrated to the
United States. They settled in Birmingham in 1975 and started a family. Fari, as many knew her,
was an architectural drafter and Cad operator for over 30 years at the architecture firm of Birchfield,
Penuel, and
Associates.
She was an amazing daughter, sister, niece, cousin, wife of 42 years, mother to Parastoo and Ahmad,
mother-in-law to Raymond Lykins, aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews, colleague, artist,
and loyal friend. She influenced the lives of everyone she knew.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017
from 2-5 pm at Bridgestreet Gallery and Loft, 213 Richard Arrington Jr.
