Mary Frances Berry Hardwick, age 79, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2023. After a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Frances was born in Homewood, Alabama to Walter and Frances Berry. She graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1961. After attending Huntingdon College, she worked at the former Exchange Security Bank where she met Jay Hardwick, the love of her life. Jay and Frances were happily married for 51 years. They loved to travel, watch Alabama football, and attend their children’s and grandchildren’s functions. Frances was an avid walker for many years. She also loved going to Neil Diamond concerts; however, her greatest joy was being a mother and a grandmother.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Frances Berry and her brother Walter Berry. She is survived by her adoring husband, Jay, her children, Laura Davis (Chris) and Jeff Hardwick (Leslie). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Grace Davis, Jack Davis, Will Davis, Mary Frances Hardwick, David Hardwick, Maggie Hardwick, and Elizabeth Hardwick.
The family would like to thank Frances’ exceptional caregiver, Valencia Henderson and her delightful physical therapist, Jodi Cavin for the love and support they gave to Frances. We are eternally grateful to both of them.
A celebration honoring the life of Frances will be held on Friday, January 6th beginning at eleven o'clock in the morning with visitation to follow the service at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, located at 2061 Kentucky Ave., Vestavia Hills, AL 35216.
