Frances Estes Seibels

The youngest of four children, Frances was reared in Glen Iris Park where lifelong friendships were made. She attended Ramsay High School. Upon graduation, she entered Sweet Briar College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. In the fall of 1946, she met Henry Seibels, Jr. They were married on April 18, 1947; their marriage lasted almost 69 years.

Her family was her cherished treasure. Starting with her brothers and sister, Frances developed a tremendous love and loyalty to her family. She built swimming pools and playgrounds at her homes to keep her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren close.

Frances was active in the Linly Heflin Unit, the United Way, and Gateway (formerly The Mercy Home). She was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, the Nineteenth Century Club, the Cambridge Club, and the Colonial Dames.

It was said by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that “Granny” was never happier than when she had a project. She loved gardening and working in the dirt from her Shelby County row crops to her city garden. She often quoted, “One is nearer to God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on Earth.”

Franny had the support and joy of a wonderful group of friends and relatives. Kathy Myatt was an especially wonderful and attentive niece to her Aunt Franny and a constant presence.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Regina Kelly and her daughters Venus, Tina, and Edwena for their five years of devoted care and kindness.

Frances leaves to cherish her memory four children: Henry G. Seibels, III (Donna), Katherine S. Seibels, Edmund K. Seibels (Beth), and Frances S. Little (Norris); 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Davidson (Garrett), Sarah Harmon (Joe), Francie Likis (Zan Blue), Mary Foster (Edward), Margaret Ray (Barnes), Liz Ogletree (Jason), Katey Blair (Brooks), Will Little (Sara), Henry Little (Dana), and Esther Bratton (Ben); and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family has planned a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Linly Hefln Unit or the charity of your choice.
