Francis Hunter Hinkle III

​A graduate of Mtn Brook High School, class of 1987, Tres was a State Champion wrestler in both his sophomore and senior years. He attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity, graduating from Jacksonville State University. An true outdoorsman, Tres truly lived to fish, hunt, and spend time in nature. Some of his greatest joys were found under the open sky, sharing his passion for the outdoors alongside his father and his children. He dedicated much of his professional life to the family business, working with pride at Hinkle Metals and Supply. He loved to Tres was an attentive and adoring son to his mother.

​He is survived by his children, Kathryn Taylor Hinkle and Francis Hunter Hinkle, IV and their mother, Florence Hinkle, who was the love of Tres' life. He loved to have family and friends present, cooking and serving them delicious wild game recipes and regional dishes. Tres was also survived by his faithful hunting and fishing partner, Marley.

Tres was preceded in death by his uncle, Phillip Hinkle; his cousin, Justin Hinkle and his niece Tatum Hoff

​Tres is also survived by his father, Francis Hunter Hinkle, Jr. (Diane); his mother, Connie Hinkle; his sisters, Lynn Hinkle( Robert Freeland) and Holly Hinkle (John Hutchinson); his nephew Tryg Hoff (Lauren); and his cousin, Merritt Hinkle (Hope)

Additionally, Tres is survived by his aunts Karen Wynn (Judy) and Nancy Stroup (Don) and his uncle Michael Taylor (Laura)

​Hunter spent his life curating the perfect playlist. Music was one of his greatest passions. His home was always filled with the sounds of great music and he never missed an opportunity to share a new song with the people he loved.

May his favorite melodies continue to echo in our hearts forever.

​A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Birmingham, with a reception to follow.
