
VINES, DR. FRANK LANE, age 77 of Homewood, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Born on April 22, 1932 in the Snow Rogers Community of Gardendale, Alabama, he graduated from the University of Alabama in 1953 earning his BS Degree. He went on to Graduate from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1957. Dr. Vines served as a Captain in the Dental Corps of the United States Army. He was a member of the 1st Battle Group, the 17th Infantry, the "Buffalo Unit" serving in the peacekeeping forces at Pusan, Korea, and at Camp Kaiser, Korea above the DMZ and at Fort Benning, Georgia from August 1957 until August 1959. A man who loved his practice and considered his patients family, Dr. Vines practiced dentistry in Homewood, Alabama from 1957 until his retirement in 2000. He loved fishing, gardening, was an accomplished boat builder, was an inventor, and a pioneer in the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence W. Vines and Mildred Ferguson Vines, and two brothers, William Vann Allen Vines and David Milton Vines. He is survived by his wife, Norma Cullen Vines; daughter, Laura Ellen Vines of Fairbanks, Alaska; son, Mark Lane Vines (Cindi Arms) of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Erin Arms Vines, Ciara Arms Vines, and Lucas Lane Vines, all of Austin, TX; beloved collie, Danny; 3 aunts, Beryl Ferguson, Frances Ferguson, and Beth Ferguson Tippin; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22nd at the Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. The family requests memorials honoring Dr. Frank Lane Vines be directed to Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 513 Columbiana Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood.
