I don't know where to begin with my beloved Gary Argo...We met at Southern Company.  I was 20, pregnant and in an abusive relationship. He rescued me.  He loved my unborn child, Shannon, as she was his own. Gary, slow to make up his mind decided we were not to be wed.  He introduced me to my husband to be, Jim Sapp.  Upon hearing that we were to be married, he talked me into going for a last ride in his care, as he tried to convince me not to marry Jim.  As we drove "around the block" he decided he was going to marry me and he was taking me to Georgia elope. After many tears, yelling, you can't make me marry you Gary...the car ran out of gas in of all places...ARGO Alabama.  I would not get back in the car until he returned me to home.  He became my daughter, Shannons' Godfather.  We remained true friends all throughout the years.  I spoke with him last when he called me in Alaska.  We talked about old times, and laughed realizing we would have killed each other if we had gotten married.
He was my teacher in life, teaching me the great composers, and artist of life.  He taught me to look into the sky and see the beauty all around me.  I will miss him terribly, as all of you will.  He was amazing, funny, stubborn, and more than anything so loving. 
To his Family, I say how lucky you are to have such a wonderful brother, Judy, and I wonderful uncle Cole...God Bless you all.  Thank you to Pat Whaley for taking good care of him.

Our hearts will always be with you, dear Gary.  Fond memories of our childhood  in our hometown of Sipsey will be mine to treasure forever.  I'm so sorry that you did not write a history of our family, as your knowledge of our ancestors was incomparable.  I hope you have found the peace you sought.

Gary was a very special cousin or, I might say, brother. I will always remember the great times we had together.

Gary was a bright light with a brilliant mind and memory! He was an avid music lover and could recount the history of almost every musician, no matter what genre.  Many people considered him to be a guru of sorts because he always showed great love and concern for everyone. Because he was so well versed, he gave excellent insightful advice.  A big man in statue, he was gentle and kind but quick to anger in the face of  injustices.  Even when he was in the worst pain in the last few years of his life, he always had a joke or a silly limerick to share.  He was definitely a giant among men and I miss him terribly.  I know without a doubt that he is wrapped in his Savior's arms and at peace.

Dear friends of Gary "Goo-Goo" Argo, I loved that man.  He was kind to me and my little sister when we were children; he taught me how to throw a softball and how to use a glove; he gave me my first 33 LP album, Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."  I never thought of danger as my sister and I sat hunched in the back holding seats of his red MG.  When Bachman Turner Overdrive would come on, he would crank-up the volume and smile, with the wind in his hair, one hand on the wheel, tapping the the gearshift to cruising speed.  He couldn't swim, but he went with us - in a boat and then an inner tube on Percy Priest Lake.  A brave heart and a soul surely inhabiting the peaceful realm of heaven.   Sure will miss him...
