Georgia Hollis McCain

MCCAIN, GEORGIA POOLE HOLLIS, born September 16, 1920 in Mullins, South Carolina left this world to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on December 18, 2010. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. She attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was selected for her skills because of her math and French language majors to work for TVA in Chattanooga, Tennessee during WWII. She worked on the classified maps of Normandy France for the D-Day Invasion. Noteworthy was her help in preparing the invasion maps for General Eisenhower and his staff. During this time she met and married LTjg Jack D. Hollis, USNR of Portland, Tennessee who served in the Pacific Theater. After the War they lived in several locations until settling in Chattanooga, Tennessee as he worked for TVA as an attorney and she raised her two sons. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Chattanooga. Currently she was a member of the Riverchase United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Poole and sister, Francis Smith, both of Mullins, SC, her first husband, Jack D. Hollis Sr., and after his death then her marriage to the Reverend Byron H. McCain. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Cushing of Birmingham, her two sons, Jack D. Hollis Jr., of Atlanta, Georgia, wife, Cheryl, granddaughters, Allison Brown and Laura Jalbert and great-granddaughter, Anne Brown and Michael P. Hollis of Mary Esther, Florida, wife, Helen Lorann and grandsons, Matthew and Jonathan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel Funeral Home with a time of fellowship to follow the service at the funeral home. After the memorial service on the 22nd, there will be a family visitation for residents of Town Village Retirement Center at 7p.m. in the Community Room at Town Village. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
