Gloria leaves behind an indelible legacy of 98 years of life—wife to the late Judge Clyde “Dugan” Callaway and mother to their four daughters, Cathy, Nancy, Susan, and Carol. An adored grandmother and great-grandmother, to whom she was best known as Memaw, she will forever be the matriarch, our Queen Mother.
She will be cherished as a loyal friend by the many she loved and regarded as family. Gloria was a woman of integrity with a generous heart. Like her charisma, her laugh was infectious, and her sharp mind and wit never outclassed her sincerity.
Gloria was active in the community, serving as PTA President and fundraising for the American Heart Association and the Assistance League. She was a creative force, a talented seamstress, artist, dancer, bridge player, and fisherman. A true original, a real Southern lady, Gloria touched the lives of all who knew her, for to know her was a blessing. She will be deeply missed.
Our family would like to express gratitude to the caregivers—Jo, Melissa, Kristy, and Carolyn—for their dignified service and compassion.
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the memorial service for Gloria on Friday, April 5, 2024 beginning at 2:00 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Exceptionalfoundation.org.
