Ms Glo as the Tuesday and Thursday circuit class called her will certainly be missed by all who had the pleasure of being greeted with that happy face. I had the good fortune of visiting her several Saturday afternoons at Golden Living and talking about her life and the Good Lord's plans for her future.  What a blessing to have laughed and shared time with her.  I pray the memories of your sister, mom and grandmother are as joyous and encouraging as I recall, even when she took a strong stand. i had the pleasure of serving patients with Mrs Laborde for many years at the Eye hospital. She was  unforgettable !!

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Laborde. I enjoyed the times that we spent together talking and Laughing about our careers. I loved her visits and I miss her smile and generosity. She was  a true nurse and I will cherish her memories....

It is said that uniqueness defines a 
person. Gloria's uniqueness was exhibited
in her gift for making people feel comfortable and special. Her warm caring
heart always had time to talk and listen
to people, no matter where she was or who she met.  Gloria had a love for life and people. She was intelligent, compassionate, and giving. I had the experience of seeing her with her family and her family at Lakeshore Foundation, which was more than just a place to exercise, but a home away from home where she could mingle, assist others, and share.
Also, I had the experience to visit her
in her last days at Golden Living to talk, pray, laugh, and hear her share her memories of family, friends, and days gone by. 
What a wonderful lady she was and what 
a glorious life she lived. My life was blessed by knowing her. Gloria lived with
dignity and died with dignity and grace.
I will always remember her bright face and big smile. 
My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Dear Madelyn, So sorry to hear of your loss of your mom, My mom passed away Feb. 2012. You may not remember me, my name is Yvonne Bridges Evans. We went to school together 1st and 2nd grade in McDonald's Chapel, also we worked together at McCrory in Ensley, a long time ago.  I did marry Jerry Evans, who worked there at the time. I am so glad to have known Gloria. She was an inspiration to all and seeing her at Lakeshore gave us the energy to keep going, I moved to Atlanta in January. When I think about Lakeshore I can see Gloria's sweet smile. I had lived in Baton Rouge so we had alot to discuss. Everyone will miss her.

Women Veterans of Louisiana salute the military service of Ms. Gloria Bourgeois Laborde in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.  Here is a poem that we read at the veterans funeral:

She is a woman veteran
Whose service was true
She proudly served
The Red, White and Blue

She gave a part of her life
So others could be free
And without hesitation
She joined unselfishly

She did her job well
With Honor and Pride
And served her great country
With the men alongside

We're proud today to know
That although she is gone
She goes on to glory
After a job "well done"

And so, Our "Dear Sister"
We salute you today
A special soldier laid to rest
In this quiet, solemn way.

I am honored to have called Gloria my friend. We shared many memories of OLOL School of Nursing and WWII. I am sorry that I did not get to see her before she went to be with God.
