Guy Ricard Guarch, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 25, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born June 19, 1940 in New York City, the beloved son of Gerard J. Guarch and Helen DeMaria Guarch, and grew up in Port Washington, Long Island, alongside his brother, Gerard R. Guarch.
Guy graduated from Villanova University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. At Villanova, his resonant bass-baritone voice - his “gift from God,” as he called it - that would later bring offers he declined from Broadway, led to him becoming the soloist for the Villanova Singers all four of his years at Villanova. He continued to share his blessing, generously, throughout his life with notable favorites “Old Man River,” “The Lord’s Prayer,” or “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” leaving an indelible mark on listeners young and old. It was during one such performance while serving in the United States Navy and stationed in Jacksonville, Florida that he met the love of his life, Janet White, affectionately known to him thereafter, as “his Doll.” That love at first sight led to marriage, never faded and spanned over 60 wonderful years, joyfully enriched by the birth of their daughter, Suzanne.
Professionally, Guy enjoyed a distinguished 32-year career with USCI and Bard Medical, where with extensive travel and his magnetic personality he ascended to leadership in the international division that took Guy and Janet across Europe. As Managing Director for Bard UK, he and Janet lived in England, cherishing that vibrant chapter of their lives. Together, they also made homes in Richmond, Virginia, Memphis, Tennessee, Harvard, Massachusetts, Atlanta, Georgia and Fairhope, Alabama, forming lifelong friendships along the way. After retiring, Guy continued to lend his expertise by serving on the boards of Synergetics and Span America Medical.
Although his professional achievements were many, it was his family who defined his true purpose. His wife, Janet, and their daughter, Suzanne, were the heart of his life. With time, his circle of love grew to include his son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each new arrival bringing immense joy. Guy had many interests and hobbies that he shared with his family and friends over his lifetime, but one he cherished, in particular, was spending time with extended family on vacations in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Guy is survived by his devoted wife, Janet, his daughter, Suzanne (Dr. H. Baltzer “Beau”) LeJeune; grandchildren, Alexandra “Allie" (John) Rutherford, Graham LeJeune and Hudson LeJeune; and his great-grandchildren, Connelly “Neely” Rutherford and Banks Rutherford.
Guy’s steadfast Catholic faith, radiant smile, infectious laugh, great sense of humor, joy for life, and generous spirit will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.
A funeral Mass and interment will be celebrated privately by the family at a later date.
