

Harry Russell Glass, age 88, died on September 15, 2011. He was born on August 5, 1923 and lived the better part of his life in Cahaba Heights. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and the Philippines. After his discharge he went to Detroit, MI where he attended masonry school and he worked as a laborer while he learned his trade. He became a master brick, block and stone mason. You can see his work all around Birmingham and surrounding areas. He donated his time and work to his church, Cahaba Heights Baptist, where he will be buried. He was a loving husband, father, ”Deets” and “Gramps”. He was married to Alice J. Glass for 38 years, who preceded him in death one year to the day.
He is survived by his 3 children; Nancy Kozel (Kerry) of Chesaning, MI, John R. Glass (Debi) of Hoover, AL and Sandra Bucklaew (Dan ) of Batavia, IL; sister, Mrs. Mary Florence Payne of Birmingham, AL,: stepchildren, Kenneth Armstrong, Birmingham, AL, Nancy Goodwin (John) of Houston, TX, Robyn Schultz (Steve) of Pelham, AL. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening September 19, 2011 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood from 5:00 to 8:00. Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Cahaba Heights Baptist Church 11:00. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ridout’s Valley Chapel (879-3401) Homewood, AL.
