Helen Wahl Amaro

November 7, 1920February 3, 2013

Helen Wahl Amaro, age 92 of Birmingham, passed away on February 3, 2013. Helen was a lifelong resident of Birmingham where she was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend to countless others. Helen graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1938 and went on to complete study at Birmingham Business College where she prepared for a career in accounting. She worked at several retail stores as chief bookkeeper from 1940 until her marriage to Vic Amaro in 1955, at which time she devoted the rest of her life to her family. Helen was a kind and gentle person who only thought the best of people and gave generously with time and donations to those who she saw as less fortunate. She will be remembered for her conscientious caring for her family and her unwavering devotion to her faith. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, which she faithfully attended until illness overwhelmed her. She is preceded in death by her husband and soul mate Vic Amaro, her father John Wahl, her mother Frances Wahl, her brothers Charles and James Wahl and her sister “Toots” Ragland. She is survived by her son Vince Amaro (Hilary), her granddaughters, Jessica Amaro and Melissa Burgamy (Andy), her grandson Justin Amaro (Amy), her great grandchildren Alexandra Burgamy and Davis Amaro and her sisters Betty Green, Johnny Vaughn and Dorothy Smith. Helen will be remembered for the giving and thoughtful person that she was and will be missed by the lives she touched. We can now all rest assured and relieved that she is reunited with Vic in a happier place. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 8, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary service at 7:00p.m. at Ridout’s Valley Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery.

Dear Vince - You probably don't remember me, but we were next door neighbors growing up on Dunbarton many years ago, just on the other side of the fence. Praying for you and your family at this time. I remember your mother was always so kind.
